Friend of God

I read this scripture while doing my daily Bible reading today.

ISAIAH 41:8
But thou, Israel, art my servant, Jacob whom I have chosen, the seed of Abraham my friend.

What stuck out at me, was that God called Abraham “my friend”.

Wouldn’t you like God to say the same thing about you? Well, two other scriptures help to shed some light on this.

JAMES 2:23
And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God.

He believed God and God called him His friend. Simple, you say? It is! God loves you, and He wants you to believe on Him. Those who do, He calls friends. Now, Abraham didn’t just say “I believe God” and that was the end of it. His works testified of His faith. This is what true belief in God will do, it will cause you to come into subjection to the promise of God! It will cause God’s life to be worked through you! So it’s not just the saying “I believe God” that brings us into friendship, but it is the actual works rendering faith that brings this about.

Another thing the Bible tells us about friendship is this.

PROVERBS 18:24
A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.

Have you shewn yourself friendly to God? My friends seem to like it when I take genuine interest into how they are doing. Participate in the things they like. Sacrafice things I had planned, to join them in things they would like me to be along for. Even if it’s just for the sake of being together and hanging out. When is the last time you have thought of God in this way? “Lord, I want to be your friend…we’re going to ‘hang out’ tonight”. This might be spending time with him in various ways…or writing a poem that’s only to Him, or many other things. However friendship is shown in your life…show this toward God as well.

God bless you,
