Our Duty

(Unity Pt.II)

“Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!” -PSALM 133:1

The ‘trend’ these days seems to always be ‘do-it-yourself’ and ‘self-help’. Everyone (including those of us in the Message) wants to ‘get by on our own’, we want to isolate ourselves from outside help, and accomplish it all ourselves.

It seems we’re of the opinion that we don’t need anyone else’s help. We don’t believe we need anyone else’s advice. We don’t feel that we need anyone else’s support. In a day and age of ‘I want’, and ‘I need’, we’ve convinced ourselves ‘we don’t need anything’.
(I’m speaking financially, and physically, but if we take a deeper look we see many try to apply this line of thinking spiritually as well.)

I am thoroughly convinced that this is a day and age where the Bride of Christ needs one another more than we’ve ever need each other before. But we’ve built up complexes, we’ve built up walls, and by our traditions have “made the commandment of God of none effect“.

The majority of individuals seems to have the attitude that no one can teach them, no one can tell them anything, no one else can have a correct opinion other than their own.

“The attitude of this age is exactly what it was then. People have it all. They know it all. They cannot be taught. If a point of truth from the Word comes up and a man tries to explain his view to one with an opposing view, the listener is not at all listening that he might learn, but is listening only to refute what is being said”.

The Bible tells us that “two are better than one; because they have a good reward for their labour. For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow: but woe to him that is alone when he falleth; for he hath not another to help him up”. (ECCLESIASTES 4:9)

He works through you and I as portions of God. That’s why the Holy Spirit, when It come on the day of Pentecost, It broke all up, that Pillar of Fire, and divided Itself in licks of tongues, and sat upon each one. We have to have one another. The biggest thing the devil ever got on us was when he separated us from the love of God, from one another. And we love one another; that’s brotherly love. When we can get to one another… If you’ve got part of the Holy Ghost, and I’ve got part of It, and the next man’s got part of It, put us together, there’s three parts. I’m three times as strong as I was with you two brothers.

Oh, I know there’s many rise up, and go out, and say, “Oh, I don’t need to go to church any more. Praise God, the Holy Ghost has come; He’s the teacher.” When you get that idea, you’re just wrong. For why did the Holy Ghost set teachers in the church if He was going to be the teacher? See? There are first apostles, prophets, teachers, evangelists, and pastors. The Holy Spirit set teachers in the church, so He could teach through that teacher. And if there’s–it isn’t according to the Word, God doesn’t confirm it, then it isn’t the right kind of teaching. It must compare with the entire Bible, and be just as alive today as It was then. There’s the real thing made manifest.

You say, “Well, glory to God, the Bible said when the Holy Ghost is come you don’t need any teacher; He’s the teacher Hisself.” Oh, brother. How can you be so little from reading the Scrip… Why did the Holy Ghost set teachers in the church then?

Say, “I don’t have to have anybody teach me; the Holy Ghost teaches me.” It does through a teacher. He set teachers in the church.

“…thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked.” -REVELATION 3:17

We usually apply this Scripture as talking about financial goods, but what about the spiritual aspect? We have “need of nothing”, we know it all and don’t need anything. We’re not on fire for God, but we’re not cold sinners either. We’re lukewarm Laodiceans who live a Message lifestyle and have our Message traditions, but the Message hasn’t come into many of us with a life that makes the book of Acts repeat again.

We have our ‘Hoffman’s Head of Christ’, and ‘God Bless Our Home’ in our living rooms. Books and tapes fill our shelves (gathering dust along with our Bibles). That is not enough! Satan believes that God sent a prophet (he got cast out by him every night in the prayer lines), but it has to be a life! We must have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ Who will lead us and guide us (reveal to us) the truths that are in our Bible and in the Message the prophet brought to us (restoring us back to the perfect Word).

It’s all about us these days, and how we can better ourselves, and make life easier for #1. Isn’t that Christ-like? I thought a Christian life is supposed to be doing for others, being a servant, lending a helping hand, trying to get souls saved for Jesus!

Many today pull away from other believers, and feel that they don’t need to go to church, or to have fellowship with other brothers and sisters. (Yet I can’t find my Bible or the prophet-messenger of our age encouraging me to do this). They make excuses like ‘there are too many hypocrites at church’ or that ‘they don’t believe everything exactly like I do’, and yet they don’t let the vast number of hypocrites and people they rub shoulders with every day (who don’t believe anything similar to what they believe) keep them from going to the grocery store, or to their jobs, or their schools…

Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching. -HEBREWS 10:25

Brother, when you got that baptism of the Holy Ghost, it’s takes that old temper out of you. It puts you on a dress and makes you act like a lady. It’ll make you quit your smoking, drinking, lying, stealing, and everything. Brother, when you’ve got the baptism of the Holy Ghost, it separates you. It delivers you from the things of the world. Amen. It makes you love God. It makes you go to church. It makes you worship Him. It makes you tell your neighbor about it. It makes you live above sin. Hallelujah.

And now, you’ve got tapes on that. You’ve got tapes on what we believe. You got tapes on discipline in the church: how we behave ourself in the church of God, how we got to come here together and set together in heavenly places. Don’t stay home. If God is in your heart, you can’t hardly wait for them doors to open out yonder to get in here to fellowship with your brothers. If you don’t–don’t feel that way, then I tell you, it’s time you got to praying, ’cause we’re in the last days where the Bible exalted us–exhorted us to–to much more as we see that day approaching, to love one another with Christian love and Divine love, to assemble ourselves together in heavenly places in–in Christ Jesus and love one another. “This will all men know you’re My disciples when you have love one for the other.”

When a little confusion comes in the church, you don’t run over to one side and pout now. If you are, you sure ain’t a priest. See, you pray through: spiritual sacrifice, the fruits of our lips giving praise to His Name. See what I mean?
“Well,” you say, “I just don’t feel like going to church.” But you’re a priest. It’s your duty. You’ve got to be there.
“Well, I just don’t feel like taking a part in the service.” You’re a priest, making a sacrifice, a spiritual sacrifice, not giving somebody some hand-me-down, as they call it today. That’s all good, I have nothing against it. Not going to get somebody to come to church; that’s all good; I have nothing against it. But it’s you, you making the spiritual sacrifice, the fruits of your lips giving praise to His Name.
When you see the time coming that everybody blaspheming and saying these things, and doing things wrong, what do you do, walk away? You’re supposed to stand there with a spiritual sacrifice, saying, “The Blood of Jesus Christ cleanses from all sin, makes me a new creature in Christ Jesus.”

We all have a job to do. We all have a duty as Christians to do something for the Lord. Whether its giving a testimony to someone who wants to hear about the Lord, or being an example to a brother who is down and trying to encourage him, or just living a life worthy of the gospel so the people out there in the world can see the life of Christ living in you and know that there is something real to be had in this crazy world.

Lets stop trying to do someone else’s job, or telling everyone how to do theirs, and lets sweep our own steps, have a good old fashioned house cleaning and then get out there and do something for Him. If we really love Him we won’t sit around waiting for someone else to do something for Him, or waiting for someone else to start the revival – we’ll get on our knees until the revival comes in us.

“Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.” -EPHESIANS 4:3
